Who Are We?
HISTORY
Vezirköprü Vocational School, affiliated with Ondokuz Mayıs University, commenced its academic operations in the 2005–2006 Academic Year. During its founding phase, the school began education with two departments: the Computer Technology and Programming Program under the Department of Technical Programs, and the Accounting Program under the Department of Economic and Administrative Programs. In its first year, education was carried out with 57 students at the temporary campus in Samsun.
Physical and academic infrastructure developments were carried out simultaneously; administrative and academic offices, classrooms, laboratories, the dining hall, and social areas were completed, and necessary educational equipment was procured. Following these completions, as of the 2006–2007 Academic Year, the Vocational School began education in its own building in Vezirköprü. Student numbers increased with 68 new enrollments in that same academic year.
In 2007, Evening Education programs for Computer Programming and Accounting and Tax Applications were launched. The Accounting and Tax Applications Evening Education Program continued its activities until 2013 and ceased student intake thereafter due to its closure.
In the 2008–2009 Academic Year, the Child Development Program was established under the Department of Health Programs, offering both day and evening education.
To align with the vocational and technical education regulations conducted by the European Qualifications Framework, the Vocational Qualifications Authority, and the Ministry of National Education, a restructuring of department and program architectures in higher education became necessary. Accordingly, per the Higher Education Executive Board decision dated April 15, 2009, department and program titles were rearranged, and the new structure was implemented starting from the 2009–2010 Academic Year.
In the 2009–2010 Academic Year, the Furniture and Decoration Program was launched under the Department of Materials and Material Processing Technologies.
The academic development process continued in subsequent years. In 2013, the Department of Forestry was established, launching the Forestry and Forest Products Program with both day and evening education options.
In 2016, the Internet and Network Technologies (Distance Education - UZEM) Program was opened under the Department of Computer Technologies, expanding remote learning opportunities.
The Interior Design Program under the Department of Design began admitting students in 2020. Meanwhile, the Department of Materials and Material Processing Technologies has not admitted students since 2019 due to the department's closure.
Per the decision taken by the Council of Higher Education in 2024, Evening Education programs in higher education institutions were closed. Within the scope of this decision, all evening programs at our Vocational School were terminated.
Today, Vezirköprü Vocational School continues its academic activities with 5 departments and 6 programs, serving approximately 1,000 students. With its practice-oriented educational approach meeting contemporary requirements, our Vocational School stands as a well-established higher education institution meeting the need for qualified human resources in the region.
